Dominican 2013

Oh how good the Lord is! This past Dominican trip we had nearly 60 people going to there to have medical clinics and do some evangelism outreaches. A few weeks before the trip, I began to justify not going on the trip by saying that I didn’t have the money to go and that I would be just another number and it wouldn’t matter if I was there or not. I began to pray much about the trip and the Lord had given me a word for the church there. As time passed, no one had mentioned that there would be any opportunity for me to share anything and I began to doubt again and really just wanted to stay home and save the money. Through encouragement from my wife and mother, I did go.

After a couple days of being on the trip, pastor Lee asked if I had gotten a word from the Lord for anything and so I shared it with him and he told me I would be preaching that on Sunday morning service……WOW! As a side note, there is nothing in me that wants to be in front of people and especially to speak or preach. I’ve spoken a bit at prisons and a bit on other trips, but this was completely different; I was going to be the preacher. Not only that, but was also asked to preach on the Saturday night service! So now, the shyest person to ever live was going to be preaching two services in a row! I was able to spend all day Saturday seeking the Lord and He had certainly given me an abundant amount of grace for the services. The Sunday service was very special to me because not only was I preaching the sermon, but I was the pastor for a day. Pastor Lee was at a different church that day so I had to do more than just preach the sermon, but find out from the Lord how He wanted the service to go.

God showed me to be gentle and calm and to show the church there how they didn’t need to “work up” the Spirit of God by dancing and shouting but that He just wants to be worshipped in spirit and truth by a pure heart. It was an experience I will never forget and I wouldn’t trade for anything. I’m absolutely overwhelmed with the goodness of God that He would allow the least of all the saints to be a minister for a couple days. I wouldn’t trade that trip for all the riches in the world. I’m very grateful to my Savior for allowing me to preach His great Gospel.

May 29-June 4 of this year approximately 60 people from our church went to the Dominican Republic as a mission trip. On this particular trip we traveled and worked in 2 different parts of the country holding medical clinics in both cities, going door to door preaching the gospel, and holding services at night inviting all people to come.

The Lord did absolutely marvelous things on this trip! People were saved, healed, filled with the Holy Ghost, delivered, set free, encouraged, and so much more! Although all of these miracles and more were done on this trip, I must say that this was the first trip I have been on where I did not see, personally, any person give his/her heart to the Lord. Instead, the Lord really revealed to me how much He encouraged and worked through the Body of Christ.

One particular testimony that stands out to me is as follows: one day myself, along with a couple others, were on the streets preaching when a man approached us and asked what we were doing. We told him that we were sharing with others the good news of Jesus Christ. Long story short, he told us to come to his house in order to preach salvation to his family. Well, we did just that. I felt like we were Peter going to Cornelius’s house. His family was non-responsive but there was a man walking the streets outside who happened to hear what we were saying so he curiously poked his head in the house. He soon was invited into the house and seemed very interested in what we had to say. We prayed and were about to leave, when I felt that the Lord wanted me to ask this random man if he had heard about the Holy Ghost. When I asked him, his face lit up and he told me that he was just recently saved and had heard about the Holy Ghost but really had a desire for someone to explain the Holy Ghost to him and to be filled. AMEN! We prayed for him right then and there but nothing happened. However, what is even more amazing is that later on that evening, Pastor Lee preached on the baptism in the Holy Ghost and guess who was there? That man! I do not know if he was filled that particular night, but he will be if ha has not been already!!! It is so wonderful how God orchestrated that whole scenario! God drew that man to that random family’s house and gave us the discernment of the Holy Ghost in order to hear the cry of his heart. We were not even there to talk to him, but God had other plans and was glorified in it! What’s more, is that God then drew that man to that particular service! Praise be to GOD! How marvelous is our LORD!

Jesus said, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

God had joined together about 60 people with hearts to serve Him in His work with a local church in the Dominican. It was amazing to see the love of God shed abroad through the hearts of so many, being joined together in unity with the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ, having no division among them. So much so, that a security guard where we were staying had to know who we were. He had made the comment that there had been many church groups come and stay at this hotel, but this group was different - there was so much love. Only God can do that! This love of God was poured out into the community where many lives were touched by the hand of God through the lives of those who ministered the gospel of Jesus Christ, whether through medical missions or ministering in the streets, sharing testimonies, or preaching the Word of God in the churches.

About a month prior to this trip, God began to speak to my heart about ministering the whole counsel of His Word concerning those who were true born again believers. So many stop with their confession of faith, confident in their salvation. But God was tugging at my heart saying, there is so much more! He began to reveal His heart to me through His Word. In Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” and Acts 19:2 Paul said to the disciples of Ephesus, “Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?” As I knelt before God, I found myself asking, what are we to do Lord? His answer was simple. “Preach Acts.” The book of Acts reveals His desires for us as followers of Jesus Christ. By faith we believe. As believers we are called to be water baptized, and God said there is more! “...and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost...and ye shall receive power...and ye shall be witnesses unto me (Jesus)”.

We are all ministers of reconciliation and we all can receive all that God has to offer if we just ask and believe that Jesus is everything He says he is! As the group went in obedience to share the good news and the hope that is in Jesus Christ to the people of the Dominican Republic, and fellowship and encourage those in the churches, God met with our own church body. One night after being ministered to and receiving the Word of God, many in the congregation went to the altar before God either in agreement with His Word, repentance, believing for healing, salvation or just in prayer and thanksgiving to our Holy God desiring a deeper relationship with Him. We could feel the presence of God! God not only blessed the local people, but He blessed our own through an outpouring of the Holy Ghost upon three of our young people, baptizing them with evidence of speaking in tongues. It was a mighty move of God and His desire to fill them with the power of the Holy Ghost to be witnesses unto His Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I am a witness to the mighty move of God not only here, but also within the United States and of testimonies of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost throughout the world. The end times are near and it is God's desire that none should perish but have everlasting life. Thank God that He has called us all to be ambassadors for Christ and He has privileged us to be a part of His plan in shedding His love abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given us.
