God commanded Jeremiah to go to his brothers and sisters in his home country of Israel and demand that they repent and turn to God.

Jeremiah knew it would many people angry. He even figured that he might be executed for treason. Therefore, he made excuses to God for why he wasn’t the right man for the job, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

Jeremiah 1:6-9

6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak for I am child.

7 But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for you shalt go to all that I shall send you to, and whatsoever I command you that shall you speak.

8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with you to deliver you, saith the Lord. 9 Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

Even though Jeremiah was making excuses for why he couldn’t serve the Lord, God never stopped encouraging him by saying, “I am with you and will rescue you.” It’s often the way that we react to God. We come up with excuses for why we can't follow the command the Lord has given us “to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” We say to God and ourselves, “I don’t know enough scripture,” “I can’t speak as good as such and such,” “What will people think of me,” “I don’t know what to say,” “I might lose my job,” or “Let somebody else do it."

Fear is a great motivator and a greater inhibitor. God immediately saw the fear in Jeremiah’s heart and said, “Do not be afraid of them.” The Bible teaches that “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and the fear of man is a stumbling block (Proverbs 9:10 and 29:25).” Perfect LOVE will cast out all fear and cause you to be obedient to God. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but love, power, and a sound mind. Don’t let fear plague your mind, but be filled with the Holy Ghost and all that fear will go away.

I preached a message a while back called “Having No Man’s Blood on My Hands.” Paul said, “He shunned not to declare the whole council of God everywhere he was sent.” He said, “I am free from the blood of all men.” Let us as the church not shun to declare what God has done by sending His only begotten Son to deliver all of us from our sin to serve the living God. However you feel you lack, just ask and receive from the Lord. Remember we can do all things through Christ who is our strength.

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to all that believe!
